The University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 4-3 to Maryland in a hard fought battle that saw four of the six singles matches go to three sets at College Park, Md. Sunday afternoon.

The No. 43 ranked Cardinals got off to a slow start when they dropped the doubles point. The No. 2 doubles pair of Robert Rotaru and David Simon fell 8-1 to Amit Inbar and Nickolai Nielson to start the Terrapin momentum. Then at No. 3, Viktor Maksimcuk and Pablo Camacho fell 8-5 to give the Terps the point. The No. 23-ranked Louisville tandem of Austen Childs and Simon Childs suffered a mild upset at the hands of No. 30-ranked Andrew Orban and Boris Fetbroyt who prevailed 8-6 at No. 1.

In singles, Simon Childs semed to regain the momentum when he quickly tied the score at 1-1 with a 7-6, 6-1 victory over Boris Fetbroyt. The No. 2 slot was second to finish when Victor Maksimcuk fell in three sets 5-7, 6-3, 6-2. Marylands David Kwon took his first set, fell to David Simon in the second and then rolled 6-4 in the third for the Terps' third point. At No. 1 singles, No. 40-ranked Austen Childs fell in a nail-biter 5-7, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 to give Maryland its fourth and deciding point. U of L's Robert Rotaru beat Nikolia Nielson 7-5, 6-7 (8-10) 1-0 (10-5) at No. 5 while teammate Alejandro Calligari prevailed 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) over Alex Aksanov.
