
Bergstrom and Van Isschot Sweep BIG EAST Swim Awards

Louisville hosted No. 20 Missouri on Nov. 15 and beat the Tigers behind multiple first-place efforts from junior Carlos Van Isschot and sophomore Therese Bergstrom. Van Isschot was named the men's BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week after being part of two record setting relays in the win. Bergstrom earns the women's BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week honor with a pair of first-place finishes in two breaststroke events.
Van Ischott was the back leg of the Cardinals' 200-yard medley relay team which set a pool record (1:29.70) at the Ralph Wright Natatorium in Louisville, Ky. The junior entered the record books again with another pool record in the 400-yard free relay (3:01.23). Van Isschot swam the third leg for Louisville in 44.87. Aside from the relay wins, Van Isschot placed first in the 100-yard (48.65) backstroke in his third pool-record performance of the meet.
Bergstrom swam four events against Missouri, finishing first in each race. The sophomore's 3:46.74 finish in the 400-yard medley set a pool record. Bergstrom was part of a winning relay team as well, swimming the breaststroke portion of the 200-yard medley relay in 1:43.97. Bergstrom finished first in two other individual events, winning the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke.
