
Cardinal Park Expansion Groundbreaking Ceremony Thursday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The groundbreaking ceremony for the Cardinal Park expansion, which will include the Waldman Field Hockey Complex and Marshall Center training facility, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 25. The event will take place at the site adjacent to Trager Stadium prior to the Cardinals' 7 p.m. field hockey game against Indiana.
The Waldman Field Hockey Complex, will house offices for the field hockey coaches and staff, and locker rooms for home and visiting teams as well as storage and mechanical space. The home team locker room will include 29 wood lockers, refreshment station and sunken floor pit for lounging, study or team meetings.
The Marshall Center will serve as a strength and conditioning facility for all of Cardinal Athletics' Olympic Sports. The first floor will be home to a 7,000 square foot weight and strength training area, while the second floor of the facility contains over 1,000 square feet dedicated to cardio training.
A stadium concession stand, public restrooms and a 1,500 seat aluminum bleacher system will also be included in the expansion. The entire expansion area will encompass 14,360 square feet.
"The Marshall Center gives more than 400 student-athletes the opportunity to train at a state-of-the-art facility," said U of L Director of Athletics Tom Jurich. "It will provide the elite level training that our coaches and student athletes require to be the best. We are grateful to the Marshall family for the lead gift that will make this facility possible. We are equally grateful for Randy Waldman's generous gift and commitment to provide our field hockey program with the on-campus offices and locker rooms in one of the finest field hockey stadiums in the country."
