The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams will have four home meets as a highlight of the 2006-07 schedule which head coach Arthur Albiero has released.
The Cardinals will also face three BIG EAST opponents in the regular season when they host West Virginia, Cincinnati and Notre Dame. In non-conference action, U of L will face the likes of Illinois, Purdue, Penn State, Missouri and Tennessee as well as others.
"Our schedule is upgraded and will be very tough," said Albiero. "We are looking forward to hosting BIG EAST opponents this year which will add to the competitive feel of an in-season meet. Our schedule will provide great preparation for the BIG EAST, NCAAs and national meets."
U of L will swim all of its home meets in the Ralph Wright Natatorium. The Cardinals are coming off a banner year in 2005-06 that saw the women finish fourth and the men sixth in the inaugural BIG EAST championship. Vali Preda, from Romania, qualified for three events: 100 and 200 meter breaststroke, and the 200-IM. In his first year of competition, Preda won three BIG EAST championships. Preda was the second fastest freshman in the nation in the 200-breaststroke and a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. He is currently ranked No. 21 in the world in the 100-meter breaststroke.
