
Women's Basketball Hands Winthrop a 69-45 Loss

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's basketball team used a 19-0 run in the first half to defeat Winthrop 69-45 Saturday night in the Cardinal Classic held at Knights Hall. Three Cardinals scored in double figures with Angel McCoughtry leading all scorers with 14 points. Freshman Brandi Radde scored 12 points, knocking down four three-pointers. Junior forward Yuliya Tokova recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
The Cardinals began the game strong with a 12-3 run and never gave up the lead. The Cardinals built a 28 point lead with 2:15 left in the first half. The Cardinals shot 45 percent from the field in the half while holding Winthrop to 18 percent from the field. Louisville went into the locker room with a 39-14 lead.
The Cardinals started the second half slow, only scoring five points in the first 6:10 of the half. McCoughtry sparked the Cardinal offense scoring four consecutive points in thirty seconds span. The Cardinals reserves protected the lead playing the majority of the second half.
Louisville finished the game shooting 44 percent from the field while holding Winthrop to 29 percent. The Cards shot 31.8 percent from behind the arc while Winthrop shot 21.7 percent. The Cardinals also outrebounded the Lady Eagles 45-30.
Louisville will wrap up the Cardinal Classic tomorrow evening as they host the Memphis Tigers at 7:30 p.m. in Knights Hall on the Bellarmine University campus.
