Third-ranked Georgia Defeats Men's Tennis 7-0

ATHENS, Ga. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team lost to third-ranked Georgia 7-0 Sunday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex at the University of Georgia.

The Bulldogs (1-0) started the match by taking the doubles point. The team of John Isner and Strahinja Bobusic topped U of L's Jeremy Clark and Jakob Gustafsson 8-5 at the top seed. Louisville's Jhonny Berido and Damar Johnson responded with an 8-6 win over Luis Flores and Matic Omerzel at the two-spot. The doubles point came down to the No. 3 spot, where Georgia's Ricardo Gonzalez and Joshua Verela edged Slavko Radman and Tony Teufel 9-7.

The Bulldogs went on to claim all of the singles points. At the top seed, Louisville's Radman took Isner, ranked No. 2 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings, to three sets before falling 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 at the top seed. Georgia's Fores defeated Johnson 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2. Bobusic, the nation's 12th ranked singles player, topped Gustafsson 7-5, 6-2 at the three seed. Omerzel defeated Clark 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4. U of L's Nicolas Houard split sets with Gonzalez at the five spot, but lost a 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 decision. UGA's Varela closed out the match with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Berrido at No. 6.

The Cardinals (3-2) will return to the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center to face No. 38 Vanderbilt Friday, Feb. 3 at 3 p.m.
