LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated visiting Morehead State 7-0 Saturday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals (2-0) improve their regular season home winning streak to 41 matches.
Louisville swept the doubles matches to grab the first point of the match. The Cards' top-seeded team of Jeremy Clark and Jakob Gustafsson defeated the Eagles' Jacob McLeod and Damian Storti 8-2. U of L's Damar Johnson and Jhonny Berrido teamed to beat Adam Storti and Pete Taylor 8-3 at the two-spot, while Tony Teufel and Stefan Naughton posted an 8-0 win over Louis Orieux and Martin Dorcich at No. 3.
In singles action, Johnson defeated McLeod 6-1, 6-1 at the top seed. Gustafsson beat Taylor 6-3, 7-6(5) at No. 2 and Clark topped Damian Storti 6-4, 6-2 at the three-spot. Berrido defeated Adam Storti 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, while Nicolas Houard posted the same score against Orieux at No. 5. Robert Rotaru beat Dorcich 6-1, 6-1 at the six seed.
"It was good to have Morehead State coach Kevin Fulton back at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center," said U of L assistant coach Mark Beckham. "He helped make our program stronger while he was a volunteer assistant coach here, and will do a great job building Morehead State's program. It was good to get a convincing win over a team that will challenge for the OVC title."
The Cardinals will play Southern Illinois Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
