Three University of Louisville divers will travel to the University of Georgia this weekend for postseason participation at the NCAA Zone Diving Competition. Seniors Sean Wilkinson, Richard Marschner and Marianne Bradford will represent the Cardinals.
The divers will be in action March 12-14 at the NCAA Zone B Championship in Athens. The top divers from across the southeast will be trying to earn a spot on the NCAA Championship roster.
"It speaks volumes about diving coach Mike Zehnder's tenure here at U of L where he has consistently produced elite level divers," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero. "This is a crowning achievement for what has been a great season for swimming and diving."
Action begins Friday morning with the women's 1-meter prelims at 10 a.m. The finals for the event are scheduled for 12:15 p.m. The men's 3-meter competition is set to get underway at 3:30 p.m. Saturday's slate includes the men's 1-meter event at 10 a.m. with women's 3-meter to begin at 3:30 p.m.
The platform event will take place on Sunday, with the men set to begin at 10 a.m. with the women to follow at 12:30 p.m.
Wilkinson is the current Conference USA Diver of the Meet for his wins in the 3-meter and platform at the C-USA meet a week ago. Marschner, a senior, beat his long time friend and competitor Wilkinson in the 1-meter board in Houston has executed some of his best diving in his career. Bradford, the scrappy freshman, will gain valuable experience in the highly competitive meet.
"This is the grand finale for Sean and Richard," said Albiero. "Sean has historically carried our diving program and this will be a great way for those two to finish out their careers."
Results from the zone meets across the country will determine the diving participants at this year's NCAA Championships for both men and women.
