
Cardinals Down Memphis 63-58, Advance To Semifinals

Fort Worth, Texas - The University of Louisville (20-8, 11-3) women's basketball team extended its win streak to 10 by defeating Memphis 63-58 in the second round of the Conference USA Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday evening. Junior Angel Bradley led the Cardinals in scoring with 18 points. Jazz Covington and Sara Nord each added 11 points.
Memphis started the second half with a 9-4 run to go up 37-33 in the first five minutes. After a media timeout at the 15 minute mark, freshman Katie Olson nailed a three-pointer to get the Cards within 37-36. On the next possession, Memphis' Jennifer Sullivan hit a jumper. Then sophomore Jessica Huggins nailed a trey to tie the score at 39.
The score traded hands until Huggins knocked down another trey at the 8:03 mark and the Cardinals took the lead for good. Covington converted an old fashioned three-point play with 5:49 remaining to give Louisville its biggest lead at 55-48. The Lady Tigers' Tamika Butler scored on a layup with just over two minutes remaining to cut the lead to 57-56.
Olson scored on a putback on the next possession to put the Cards back up by three at the 1:44 mark. Bradley hit 2 of 4 from the line to put Louisville up 61-56 with 29 seconds remaining. The Lady Tigers' Butler made another layup to get within three. Nord missed two free throws and Memphis' Devin Necaise missed a three-pointer. Nord grabbed the rebound and had a second chance at the line and hit both shots to seal the Cardinal victory.
The Cardinals will face host TCU in the second semifinal game at 4:30 p.m. in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
