FT. WORTH - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated Southern Miss 5-0 Saturday at the Conference USA Intraconference Shootout hosted by TCU. The Cardinals (8-2) will play host TCU on Sunday at 2:30 (ET).
Louisville began the match by clinching the doubles point as the team of Cody Conley and Octavian Nicodim defeated Marc-Olivier Lux and Nicolas Carteret 8-5 at the top seed. Matt Mayer and Harry Walsh teamed to beat Reid Burgeois and Juanjo Martin 8-3 at No. 2. The contest between Louisville's Paulo Carvalho and Jakob Gustafsson and Southern Miss' Uwe Gneiting and David Canuda was halted.
The Cards notched four singles wins in straight sets as Carvalho defeated Gneiting 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2. Mayer won a 7-5, 6-3 decision over Carteret at No. 4. Jhonny Berrido defeated Lux 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 and Walsh beat Burgeois 6-2, 7-6 at the six-spot. Conley and Nicodim did not finish their singles matches.
