
Cards Fall 73-66 to Cincinnati in Double Overtime

Louisville, Ky. - Cincinnati shot 66.7 percent in the overtime period to defeat Louisville 73-66 in double overtime on Sunday afternoon in Freedom Hall. The Bearcats K. B. Sharp led all scorers with a career-high 31 points and Lori Nero led the Cardinals with 18 points.
At the one minute mark in regulation, Sharp nailed a three-pointer to put the Bearcats up 49-46. Sabrina Minter hit a jumper just inside the three point line to get the Cards within one with 46 seconds remaining.
After a Cincinnati timeout, Sharp drove the lane and her shot was blocked by Nero. Kim Graham pulled down the rebound with 15 seconds remaining. Sara Nord was fouled and missed both free throws. Minter retrieved the missed shot and was fouled with five seconds remaining. Minter hit 1 of 2 from the line to tie it up at 49. Sharp missed a jumper as time was running out, sending the game into overtime.
With just over a minute remaining in the first overtime, Nero scored a putback to put the Cards up 59-57. Nord grabbed the missed three-pointer by Sharp to missed a jumper on her own. With two seconds remaining, Sharp nailed a jumper and tied the score at 59 sending it to double overtime.
The Bearcats started the second overtime with a 8-0 run. Debbie Merrill scored on a three-point play, Valerie King hit her first three-pointer and Brittani Young hit a jumper in the lane.
Louisville's first score came at the 1:49 mark with two free throws from Angel Bradley. Cincinnati built the lead up to nine with 45 seconds remaining off two free throws from Sharp. Nina Simotes hit a three-pointer with 35 seconds remaining but the Bearcats hit 3 of 4 from the line for the win.
Cincinnati shot 37.1 percent for the game while the Cardinals shot 32.9 percent. Louisville outrebounded Cincinnati 62-42 but committed 24 turnovers.
Louisville will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 21 in Cardinal Arena against Marquette. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
