
Women's Basketball Pounds Jackson State 76-48

Louisville, Ky. - Sara Nord scored 15 of her 23 points in the first eight minutes of the game to help guide the Cardinals to a 76-48 win over Jackson State Sunday afternoon in Freedom Hall. Nord led all scorers with 23 points and dished out nine assists and pulled down eight rebounds. Freshman Jazz Covington registered her third consecutive double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. With her seventh assist of the game Nord became Louisville's all-time assist leader. Nord surpassed LaBradford Smith's career total of 713 and now has a career total of 716.
Covington scored 14 of her 17 points in the second half. She had back-to-back three point plays to put the Cards up 48-29 with 16:22 remaining. With just under four minutes remaining Jackson State's Latoya Anderson hit two free throws to cut the Cardinals lead to 14. The Cardinals went on 16-2 run to finish the game.
Louisville finished the game shooting 47.4 percent from the field and 43.5 percent from behind the arc. Jackson State shot 31.3 percent from the field and 21.1 percent from behind the arc. The Lady Tigers outrebounded the Cardinals 40-38.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 12-4 run to start the game. Nord led the run with back-to-back three-pointers. The Cards continued to build the lead and led by as many as 17 in the first half. The Cardinals shot 48 percent from the field in the first half and 55.6 percent from behind the arc. Louisville held Jackson State to 31.3 percent from the field and 20 percent from behind the arc.
Louisville will face Cleveland State on the road Thursday, Dec. 18 at 7:00 p.m.
