
Young Sets Javelin Record at Butler Twilight to Lead Cardinal Women

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Senior Trish Young set the school record in the javelin and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships to lead the University of Louisville women's track and field team over the weekend at the Butler Twilight meet in Indianapolis.
Young won the event with a throw of 160 feet, 10 inches, topping her own record set two years ago by two feet. The Owen Sound, Ontario, native and two-time Conference USA javelin champion moved into the top-20 in the nation in the event.
Senior Shola Kadiri turned in a pair of top-five performances on the day. Kadiri placed third in the hammer with a throw of 179-2 and fifth in the shot put with a mark of 46-7.25.
In the pole vault, freshman Jacey Hughes and junior Cindy Roberson each cleared 12-0 to finish third and fourth, respectively.
Senior Nicole Cottmon ran personal-best times in both the 400m (58.39) and 400m hurdles (1:03.77), while sophomore Mindy Helman had a personal-best mark in the long jump (16-11.5) to round out the Cardinals' top performers.
Louisville will return to action this weekend when it hosts the Conference USA Track and Field Outdoor Championship at Cardinal Park. The three-day event begins Thursday with the heptathlon and decathlon events and concludes Saturday.
Admission is $7 each day Friday and Saturday and $3 for those with a valid college ID and fans 18 and under. Children two and under will be admitted free.
