Men's Tennis Tops Texas Tech 4-1

CORPUS, Christie - The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated Texas Tech 4-1 Sunday to secure a third place finish at the HEB National Championships.
The Cardinals took the doubles point as Cody Conley and Octavian Nicodim teamed to defeat Ben Gudzelak and Richard Crabtree 8-4 at the top seed and Matt Mayer and Brent McCombe defeated David Knaszak 8-3 at No. 3.
Conley defeated No. 59 Ramey 6-4, 7-6 at the top singles seed, while Mayer topped Devin Wakeford 6-4 6-4 at No. 4 and Alex Sivertsen edged Michael Innerebner 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 5. Crabtree defeated Nicodim 6-0, 6-3 at the three spot for Tech's only point.
"We were very pleased to finish third out of 16 teams," said Louisville head coach Rex Ecarma. "The HEB Championship had a great field, but we felt like we were capable of winning the whole thing. Hopefully this will give us some momentum going into the Blue-Gray National Championships this week."
Louisville (7-10) will travel to Montgomery, Ala. to compete in the Blue-Gray National Championships March 14-17.
