Seattle, Wa. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team lost a close match to the Northwestern Wildcats 4-3 in the Great Northwest Shootout at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center on Saturday.

The Cardinals began the match winning the doubles point 1-0. At the No. 1 position, Cody Conley and Octavian Nicodim defeated Ryan Edlefsen and Joost Hol 9-7. U of L's Alex Sivertsen and Paulo Carvalho fell to Tom Hanus and Russell Bennett 8-6. The Cards won the doubles point at the No.3 spot when Matt Mayer and Brent McCombe beat the Wildcats' duo of Jackie Jenkins and Chuck Perrin 8-6.

In single's action, the Cardinals' Conley defeated Edlefsen in two sets 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 1 postition. At the No. 2 spot, Carvalho lost to Northwestern's Hanus 6-2, 6-4 while U of L's Sivertsen lost to Jamie Sahara 6-3, 6-3, in the No. 3 position.

Louisville's Nicodim handed Jenkins a loss winning 6-2, 6-3. However, the Wildcats' Josh Axler clinched the victory when he won a hard fought match against the Cards' Mayer 2-6, 7-6, 6-2. U of L's McCombe also started strong before eventually falling to Northwestern's Perrin 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Louisville (3-7) will complete play in the Great Northwest Shootout versus Indiana State Saturday night.
