
Cardinals Defeat Ball State 85-71

Louisville, Ky. - All-American candidate Lori Nero scored 10 straight points to hold off a Ball State run late in the second half to guide the Cardinals to an 85-71 win Friday night in Freedom Hall. Nero finished the game with 18 points and junior Sara Nord led the team with 19 points.
After falling behind 10-3 in the first three minutes of the game, the Cards went on a 21-4 run to go up 26-14 at the 9:29 mark. Nord sparked the run with a three pointer and senior Sabrina Minter added nine points after coming off the bench. The Cardinals finished the first half shooting 50 percent from the field and 66.7 from behind the arc.
Ball State jumped out to a 7-0 run to start the second half. Angel Bradley connected on 1 of 2 from the line to end Louisville's scoring drought. Ball State went on a 18-5 run to tie the score at 57 with 10:20 remaining in the game. Then Nero took over, scoring the next 10 points for the Cardinals to pull ahead 67-59 at the 6:28 mark.
Ball State freshman Dana Collins hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to five. Then freshman Connie Neal answered with a three of her own to spark a 8-2 to put the Cards up 78-64 with just over a minute remaining. Nord hit 6 of 6 from the line to put the game away.
The Cardinals will be back in action tomorrow night against Troy State at 7:00 p.m. in Freedom Hall.
