University of Louisville redshirt freshman Broderick Clark was named the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week for his 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Cincinnati on Thursday.
A threat to go the distance each time he touches the ball, Clark gave the Cards a shot in the arm after taking the ensuing kickoff 92 yards to paydirt following a Cincinnati defensive score which had tied the score at 7-7 early in the third quarter. The kickoff was tabbed the "Top Play" on the Thursday night edition of Sportscenter on ESPN.
Clark, a native of Birmingham, Ala., has now returned a pair of kickoffs for scores this year and is leading the nation with a 32.0 yard kickoff return average. Returning kicks at a record clip, Clark is on pace to establish a new U of L record for single season kickoff return average and school and Conference USA marks for kickoff return yards in a season.
With 703 return yards through nine games, Clark is on pace to tally 937 yards on the season and currently ranks sixth on both the U of L charts and C-USA charts, needing only 198 and 157 yards, respectively, to claim the records.
Clark joins kicker Nate Smith and receiver/punt returner Damien Dorsey (twice) among the U of L players who have garnered the league's special teams player of the week honor this season.
