Louisville, Ky. - Lori Nero, a 6-2 center from Baton Rouge, La. has announced she will continue her basketball playing career at the University of Louisville next season. Nero spent the last three seasons at Auburn University and will join the Cardinals in January.
Last season Nero started in 28 out of 29 games for Auburn. She finished the season as the second leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 12.4 points and 6.4 per game. Nero was named third team All-Southeastern Conference by the Associated Press.
"Lori is a veteran post player that has proven she can play in the tough SEC with confidence," said head coach Martin Clapp. "She will add a scoring punch to our low post play next season and will help us improve by practicing each day against our players next semester. We look for her to make an immediate impact on the team."
Nero led Auburn in blocks last season with 32 on the season. She shot 70.5 percent from the free throw line and 52.7 percent from the field.
During her sophomore year, Nero tied a NCAA Tournament record by hitting 11 of 11 free throws. She scored a career-high 23 points and pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds in her first collegiate start.
During her senior year at St. Joseph's Academy, she averaged 25 points and 11 rebounds to help guide them to the District 4-5A title. A three-time all-state honoree, Nero also earned USA Today Honorable Mention All-American Honors.
