Men's Tennis Sweeps Doubleheader To Close Out Regular Season

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team closed out the regular season by defeating Butler 6-1 and Xavier 7-0 in a double header on Tuesday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
In the first match, Butler took the doubles point as Jimmy Borendame and Brandon Currie defeated Tvrtko Kujundzic and Joachim Lien 8-6 at No. 1 and Sebastian Koehler and Peter Voelz beat Brent McCombe and Cody Conley 8-6 at No. 2. Louisville's Alex Sivertsen and Hazuan Hizan defeated Louis Jacobsohn and Josh Rey at the three seed.
The Cards swept the singles points as Kujundzic defeated Currie in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 at the top seed, and Lien, Sivertsen, Paulo Carvalho, McCombe and Oliver Cantrell won in straight sets at Nos. 2-6 respectively.
In the second match, Louisville swept the doubles. Lien and Sivertsen combined to defeat Danny Sturdevan and Rob Bakker 8-1 at No. 1, McCombe and Conley beat Scott Triplett and Michael Kleinert 8-3 at No. 2 and Carvalho and Ciaran Foley defeated Aaron Bauer and Kevin McEnery at the three-spot.
U of L swept the singles as Lien, Sivertsen, Carvalho, Conley, Cantrell and Marek Blaskovic won in straight sets at Nos. 1-6.
"I am tremendously proud of Tvrtko Kujundzic for winning a grueling match despite suffering from back spasms," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "We need that win because Butler really challenged us today. It's good to play everyone on our roster one more time before the conference tournament so everyone can participate in the win."
Louisville will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. to compete in the Conference USA Championship. The Cards are seeded No. 3 in the tournament and will take on host sixth-seeded Southern Miss on Friday at 3:00 p.m. The Cards are currently No. 49 in Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings.
