Cardinal Swimmers Sweep Xavier

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming teams swept Xavier University Saturday afternoon at Crawford Pool. With the wins, both teams improve to 6-2 on the season.
The Cardinal men swept the first eight events en route to a 110-76 win. Freshman Scott Johnson and senior Brian Lucius were double winners for the Cards, with Johnson winning the 50 Free (23.13) and 100 Free (49.48), and Lucius the 200 Free (1:44.16) and 100 Fly (53.17). Other Cardinal winners were junior Gary Raketich (1000 Free), senior Sevket Yapar (200 IM) and junior Doug Klemen (100 Back).
The Louisville women won seven of the first eight events to defeat Xavier 102.5-93.5. Freshman Sara Mayne won both the 200 Free (2:02.29) and 100 Fly (1:03.52) to lead the Cards. Other winners were freshman Catherine Dievendorf (1000 Free), junior Melissa Dayton (50 Free), freshman Stephanie Basler (100 Free) and junior Karen Annear (100 Back).
The Cardinals return to action next Sunday (Nov. 14) against Georgia Southern University at 11 a.m. at Crawford Pool.
