The men's team won seven races and the women nine to help the University of Louisville to a sweep of Eastern Illinois in the opening meet of the season in Charleston, Ill.
The men won 143.5-100.5 and the women won 136-105. Both squads are now 1-0.
"I was extremely pleased with the performance of our freshmen men swimmers. They swam extremely well. Our new diver, Sean Wilkinson is a good as we dared to dream he would be," said head coach Rick Hill.
Freshman James Winchester won the 200-breast and Wilkinson swept the 1- and 3-meter boards in diving. Upperclassman Nils Lofgren won the his 200 fly race and was on the winning Medley Relay team.
Catherine Dievendorf and Brooke Morgan were multiple winners for the Cards. Morgan won the 200 fly and the 400 Medley relay. Dievendorf won the 1000-free, the 200-free and the 500 free.
"We needed those two to win those five events and they did exactly that. It was very close on the women's side because Eastern Illinois had a huge roster," said Hill.
