Reene Wilkins Maloy (1967-71)

A three-sport athlete, Maloy lettered four years in basketball at UofL (1967-71) as a guard and forward, and in field hockey, where she played right halfback and inner forward. UofL’s top scorer for three years, she averaged 21.2 points as a senior in leading the Lady Cards to a 16-1 record and a berth in the National Women’s Invitational Tournament in 1971. She played AAU basketball for six years after graduation and competed for six years in the Triple A Softball divisions of the ASA and USSSA.

Following graduation, Maloy worked four years as a sportswriter for the Courier-Journal/Louisville Times. She coached five seasons at Assumption High School (77-22 record), guiding her 1978-79 squad to a 32-1 record. She returned to UofL as an assistant coach for seven seasons, helping the Lady Cardinals to three Metro Conference Championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances.
