
Women's Lacrosse Adds Four Transfers for 2018 Season

All four will be eligible to participate when the season begins in early February.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's lacrosse announced they have added four transfers that will be eligible to play when the season begins in early February.
Courtney Deena comes to Louisville as a graduate transfer after playing four seasons at Maryland, while Jen Schaaf comes from Howard Community College and will have four years of eligibility. Tessa Chad and Brenna Shanahan come to Louisville after playing for head coach Scott Teeter at Canisius the past two seasons.Â
Courtney Deena, Midfielder, Pickerington, OhioÂ

Courtney Deena comes to Louisville as a graduate student after spending four years at Maryland. All four years as a Terrapin, she helped lead the team to conference titles, as they won the ACC title in 2013 and Big Ten titles from 2014 to 2016. As a senior, she saw action in 22 games with 17 starts. In high school, she played four years at Columbus Academy, leading the team to a 74-6-3 record, four state final fours and a state title in 2012. She tallied 258 goals and 164 assists, and 102 draw controls.
Jen Schaaf, Goalkeeper, Ellicott City, Md.

Jen Schaaf is a four-year letter winner in women's lacrosse at Mt. Hebron High School, along with playing three years of basketball and a year of field hockey. She was a four-year starter at goalkeeper for Mt. Hebron and was named a US Lacrosse All-American following her junior and senior seasons. After her junior season, she was named All Howard County and as a senior she was named Washington Post All-Metro Team, along with being named the No. 2 ranked high school goalie by USA Today.
Tessa Chad, Attacker, Orono, Ontario

As a sophomore at Canisius, Tessa Chad was named to the All-MAAC First Team and selected to the MAAC All-Tournament Team. She recorded the second most goals (53), was tied for the team-lead with 14 free position goals and posted three game-winning goals. She started all 20 games and reached the 100-point mark for her career. She totaled the fourth most goals and sixth most points (102) in the MAAC. As a freshman, she was named MAAC Rookie of the Year, All-MAAC Second Team and MAAC All-Rookie Team. She played in all 20 games, with 18 starts, and ranked third on the team in goals (38), while also recording four assists, 42 points, and 18 ground balls.
Brenna Shanahan, Defender, Mississauga, Ontario

Following her sophomore season at Canisius, Brenna Shanahan was selected to the All-MAAC First Team and named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. She led all Canisius defenders with 31 ground balls, 14 draw controls and 27 caused turnovers. She played in all 20 games with 16 starts. As a freshman, she named to MAAC All-Rookie Team after playing in all 20 games for the Griffs, starting in 18. She recorded seven goals, three assists, totaling ten points, recorded 31 ground balls, 20 draw controls, and caused 17 turnovers.
The Cardinals open the 2018 campaign at Cincinnati on Feb. 9. Their home opener will take place on Feb. 11 against Marquette.
