LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The sweet sound of the swoosh has returned – basketball is back.
The University of Louisville women's basketball team held its first official team practice for the 2016-17 campaign on Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals enter the year with lofty expectations, earning a top-10 ranking in every preseason publication: No. 2 in ESPN's way-too-early poll; No. 3 in Lindy's magazine and The Sporting News; No. 5 in Slam Magazine; and, No. 6 in Athlon Sports magazine.
The Cardinals, after warming up, practiced for a little more than two-and-a-half hours in Cardinal Arena. The team, which first played together during its trip to Cuba, worked on both offensive and defensive fundamentals in addition to shooting drills – perimeter and 3-point shooting and free throws – throughout the session.
Louisville also ran a scrimmage, breaking into two teams along with facing the team's practice players.
The Cardinals start regular-season play on Nov. 11 at UT Martin before the home-opener against NCAA Tournament participant Belmont on Nov. 13 in the KFC Yum! Center.
