Track and Field Wins 18 Events in Regular Season Finale

The University of Louisville track and field team finished its outdoor regular season with 18 first-place finishes at the Cardinal Twilight held at Cardinal Park on Friday. Josh Hall broke a 19-year-old school record in the men's 400m dash, while Emmonnie Henderson and Ben Williams both posted top marks in the ACC in their respective events.
"We did a lot of great things today," said head coach Dale Cowper. "I'm very pleased with the way the group competed as a whole and the way this group came together the last couple of weeks since final exams have been over. We've had a little bit of time just to focus and get prepared for the postseason."
Henderson led the way for the Cardinals with wins in both the women's shot put and discus. She began the day by posting an ACC and personal best mark of 17.08m/56-00.50 in the shot put before she took first in the discus with a mark of 56.44m/185-02. Dolly Nyemah finished fourth in the women's discus with a mark of 48.77m/160.
In the men's shot put, Steve Wade finished third with a mark of 16.22m/53-02.75. Five Cardinals participated in the men's discus, with Codie Hamsley finishing third with a mark of 52.15m/171-01, Wade finishing fourth with a personal best mark of 51.60m/169-03, Isaac Bowling finishing fifth with a mark of 50.82m/166-09, Trevor Troutman finishing seventh with a mark of 49.53m/162-06, and Darrius Lopez finishing eighth with a personal best mark of 46.40m/152-03.
In the women's hammer throw, Caitlin Gilmore took the top spot with a personal best mark of 57.41m/188-04, while Nyemah finished third with a personal best mark of 55.24m/181-03. Rachel Serafin finished fifth, throwing 54.22m/177-11.
On the men's side, Brad Vivace finished third with a personal best mark of 62.39m/204-08, while Nils Westrich finished fourth after throwing 58.46m/191-09. Lopez finished fifth with a mark of 56.76m/186-03, his second personal best mark of the day, and Troutman finished sixth with a mark of 55.66m/182-07.
In the women's javelin throw, Katie Wimpari was the lone Cardinal and finished third with a mark of 34.21m/112-03.
Bre'Yana Wash won the women's long jump competition with a personal best mark of 6.25m/20-06.25, while Hannah Cox finished fourth with a mark of 5.64m/18-06.00. Oliver Newport won the men's competition with a personal best mark of 7.31m/23-11.75, and Jeron Brown finished 10th with a mark of 5.57m/18-03.25.
Chanel Krause won the women's pole vault competition after posting a mark of 4.01m/13-01.75. Jade Hawkins finished third with a personal best mark of 3.86m/12-08.00, while Kelsey DeLapp finished sixth with a mark of 3.71m/12-02.00. On the men's side, Eric Fox finished fourth with a personal best mark of 4.92m/16-01.75, while Jacob Marguet finished in fifth with a mark of 4.77m/15-07.75.
Maggie Gilbertson finished in fourth in the women's high jump competition with a mark of 1.70m/5-07.00, while Javen Reeves won the men's high jump with a personal best mark of 2.07m/6-09.50.
In the women's triple jump, Brittany Owens won the event with a personal best mark of 12.51m/41-00.50. In the men's competition, Ben Williams posted a new personal best mark of 16.38 m/53-09 to finish in first place and take the top spot in the ACC. Devin Valentine finished second with a mark of 14.79m/48-06.25.
Brianne Brown and Zahara Gully both qualified for the women's 100m hurdles finals, Brown with a time of 14.04 and Gully with a personal best time of 14.20. Brown finished first in the finals with a personal best time of 13.75, while Gully finished fourth with a time of 14.39.
In the women's 100m dash, Kayla Tyson won her first event of the day with a time of 11.59. In the preliminary round, Tyson posted a time of 11.57, which was both a personal best and a meet record. In the men's 100m dash, Zachery Main finished second with a time of 10.77 after qualifying with a personal best time of 10.75.
Five Cards ran in the women's 1500m run, with Benadate Cheruiyot finishing third with a time of 4:35.18 and Bailey Davis finishing fourth with a personal best time of 4:36.20. Claire Noser finished seventh with a personal best time of 4:41.00, while Megan Klein finished ninth in 4:44.92. Leah Kiyohara finished 10th with a personal best time of 4:48.46.
In the men's 1500m run, Edwin Kibichiy finished second with a time of 3:50.15. Andrew Stewart then ran in the men's 3000m steeplechase, where he finished fifth with a time of 9:35.25.
In the first relay of the day, the women's 4x100m team of Alexis Murry, Tyson, Taylor Bradley and Wash won the event with a time of 45.80, which is a season best time in 4x100m.
Bradley finished second in the women's 400m dash with a personal best time of 54.99, while Kelsey Cramsey finished third with a time of 55.61. La'Bianca Frazier finished fourth with a personal best time of 56.42.
Hall posted the only school record of the day when he finished first with a personal best time of 46.97 in the men's 400m dash, while Antoine Keys finished second with a personal best time of 46.99. Hall broke Audley Gordon's record of 47.03 set in 1986 while Keys now has the second best time in the event. Andrew Nsuk finished third with a time of 47.07, while Teague Peck finished fourth with a personal best time of 47.61 and Carlos Coleman finished in 49.02 to take eighth place.
"Specifically standing out in my mind is the men's 400m today when we had the four guys in one heat," added Cowper. "They just rolled. Both Antoine (Keys) and Josh (Hall) broke the school record in the same heat, both going sub 47 seconds."
In the women's 800m run, Michelle Molodynia finished fourth with a time of 2:12.94. In the women's 400m hurdles, Gwen Shaw finished first with a personal best time of 1:01.40. Murry followed in second place with a time of 1:02.48.
Tyson posted her second win of the day when she took first in the women's 200m dash with a personal best time of 23.95. Main finished fourth on the men's side with a time of 22.00.
In the women's 5000m run, Alex Bunch finished 13th with a time of 19:55.07. Ernest Kibet posted a win in the men's 5000m run with a time of 14:28.29, while Japhet Kipkoech finished second with a time of 14:52.41.
The Cardinals posted wins in the final two races of the day. The women's 4x400m relay team of Murry, Frazier, Shaw and Bradley finished in 3:46.93, which marks a new season best time. The men's 4x400m relay team of Brown, Keys, Peck and Hall won with a time of 3:11.18.
"The weather conditions here today really resembled what we're going to see in Tallahassee next week, so this was a great prep meet for us as we head into the ACC Championships," said Cowper. "We saw impressive marks across the field events and impressive marks on the track. We've got kids really rounded into form, so I'm excited to see what we can do next week."
The Cards return to action next weekend when they travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to compete at the ACC Outdoor Championships. Competition is set for Thursday, May 14 through Saturday, May 16.
