Men's Tennis Falls to No. 19 Wake Forest
March 15, 2015 | Men's Tennis
The No. 28 University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 7-0 to No. 19 Wake Forest 7-0 in an ACC matchup Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals (14-4, 2-2 ACC) are back in action on Friday, March 20 when they play host to No. 12 North Carolina at 3:30 p.m.
"Wake is top 10 quality team," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "We won 14 matches indoors already this season and we played good indoor tennis today, but the problem was that it was an outdoor match. Outdoor tennis is different and we adjusted poorly which is reflective of the score. Sebastian lost for the first time this season but had a set point in the second set. No matter what temperature it is when we return to Louisville, we will train outdoors. This was our first outdoor match of the season and it showed - but we will improve."
Wake Forest (12-4, 2-1) claimed the first point of the match with wins at Nos. 2 and 3doubles. The duo of Noah Rubin and Jon Ho defeated Louisville's Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Albert Wagner 8-2 at the two-spot while Romain Bogaerts and Keivon Tabrizi sealed the point with an 8-2 win over Chris Simich and Van Damrongsri.
In singles action, Maksim Kan added to Wake's lead with a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Luis Elizondo at No. 6. Michael Lippens fell 6-0, 6-0 to Skander Mansouri at No. 4. The match was decided on court five where Christian Seraphim defeated Simich 6-4, 6-4. Albert Wagner, No. 106 in the ITA singles rankings, fell 6-2, 6-0 to No. 12 Romain Bogaerts.
At the No. 1 position, Louisville's Sebastian Stiefelmeyer, the nation's top-ranked player suffered his first dual match loss after falling 6-1 to No. 63 Noah Rubin in the first set and rallying to tie the second set 6-6, but losing 7-1 in a tiebreaker. The match concluded on court three where No. 69 Jon Ho defeated Alex Gornet 6-1, 6-3.
