Box Score Jeffrey Brown on the 4-0 win over Toledo
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team registered its seventh straight win with a 4-0 decision over Toledo Wednesday morning at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals (9-2) will face Indiana in the second game of a midweek doubleheader Wednesday at 6 p.m.
"I am pleased with the focus of our team," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "This is an early start against a team that we lost the doubles point to last season and that gave us a sweat. Pally and Chris gave us a good start and Van and Sebastian finished the doubles point. Chris played extremely well and Jeff continued to play in a relaxed and confident manner. Michael bounced back from an injury and played his normal physical style."
The teams battled though a highly-competitive doubles point before the Cardinals prevailed to take a 1-0 lead. Chris Simich and Pally Ray give Louisville an early advantage with a 6-3 win over Roberto Meza and Nicky Wong on court three. At the top-seed, Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Van Damrongsri played Omar Espinosa and Stjepan Sisko to a 6-6 tie before clinching the point with a 7-4 tiebreaker. Alex Gornet and Jeffrey Brown were knotted at 6-6 with Garrett Cona and Mark Singni but the match was abandoned after the Cards secured the point.
In singles action, Simich quickly added to the lead with a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Omar Espinosa at No. 4. Brown registered a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Stephen Miller at the six-spot. Lippens' 6-1, 6-1 win over Meza at the five-seed clinched the win for the Cardinals.
With the win, head coach Rex Ecarma now has 394 career victories.
