
Volleyball Sweeps Texas Southern to Win Rice Invitational

UofL, 8-4, hit .378 for the match with eight blocks and two aces. Clark had five blocks assists and seven kills. Jenkins added eight kills and and two blocks. TSU hit -.035 but had four aces and four blocks.
"It was a fun experience and a good opportunity to put people in positions out of their comfort zone as well as get playing time for our underclassmen," said UofL head coach Anne Kordes. " Brooke Betts had a great dig in the third set and Eleni Georgiafandis did a great job in the third set too."
In the first set, UofL used .400 hitting and three blocks to keep the Texas Southern offense out of system. The Cards ran out to a 17-8 lead and forced a TSU timeout but the Lady Tigers could get no closer and fell 25-15 in the first set.
UofL blew out to a 16-6 lead in the second set and then withstood an 8-2 run by the Lady Tigers. The Cards hit .256 in the set. Setter Katie George had three tips for kills in the set.
The Cards had a 12-1 run in the third set to go up 14-5 over Texas Southern. Louisville hit a blistering .688 in the set . Tara Gowan came off the bench for two kills and three blocks
The Cards are idle until their ACC opener with Boston College on Friday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. and Georgia Tech on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. both in the KFC Yum! Center.
