"Looking at the stats, I can't pinpoint any one thing that pushed us to such a great night," said UofL head coach Anne Kordes. " We excelled at a high level tonight and our .418 hitting is the highest we have hit in a long while. We also had 8.5 blocks and didn't have any in the first set and that was a testament to our serving so aggressively. I am proud of this fantastic team effort. We have to turn our focus to a very good Northern Illinois team tomorrow."
UofL, 5-3, outhit the Eagles .418 to .074 with an 8.5-2 block edge. Morehead drops to 0-8. The Eagles were led by Laura McDermott's eight kills. Louisville's Tess Clark hit .643 with nine kills on 14 swings and no errors. She also added seven blocks.
The Cards jumped out to an early lead at 13-9 and used .co471 hitting to stay ahead of the Eagles. Tess Clark had four kills on five swings to hit .800 and Katie George had 12 assists and five digs.
In the second set, Morehead made a push early to come within two at 11-9 but the Eagles' hitting deserted them as the Cards pushed back and cruised to a 25-13 win to take a 2-0 set lead into the lockerroom at the break.
Morehead never threatened in the third set as the Cards hit .462 and started blocking with five in the deciding set.
UofL plays Northern Illinois at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wetherby Gym on the campus of Morehead State University.
