TEAM NOTES
Louisville's game captains on Saturday were Charles Gaines, Lorenzo Mauldin, Sheldon Rankins and Jake Smith.
Kentucky won the toss and deferred to the second half. Louisville received the opening kickoff.
Saturday's attendance for Louisville and Kentucky was 55,118, the eighth largest crowd in school history.
For the 2014 season, the Cardinals' total attendance was 317,826 for an average of 52,971 setting a new school record for average attendance in a season.
Louisville closed its inaugural season in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 9-3 record overall and a 5-3 mark in the league.
The Cardinals have won four straight in the series with Kentucky equaling their longest winning streak ever with the Wildcats (also won four straight from 2003 to 2006). Louisville trails 14-13 all-time against the Wildcats but is 13-8 in the series since it was renewed in 1994.
Bobby Petrino improved to 50-12 all-time at Louisville, 5-0 against Kentucky as the Cardinals' head coach and 10-0 as a collegiate head coach on Senior Day.
The Cardinals improved to 50-9 when scoring 20 or more points under Petrino's guidance.
The 84 points in Saturday's contest were the most combined points by the two teams in the series since a total of 87 points were scored in Louisville's 59-28 victory in 2006. The 44 points for the Cardinals are the most by either team in the series since the 59-28 win in 2006.
The Cardinals' 13-point deficit in the second quarter on Saturday equaled their largest deficit of the season matching the 20-7 lead for Virginia on Sept. 13.
Prior to Saturday, Louisville had last recovered from at least a 13-point deficit to win in 2007, falling behind 38-24 to Rutgers before winning 41-38 on Nov. 29, 2007 in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
The 472 yards of total offense for the Cardinals are their third highest total of the season behind only the 603 against Murray State and the 488 against Florida State.
The 389 yards passing is the most for Louisville since finishing with 447 yards through the air against Miami in the 2013 Russell Athletic Bowl victory.
The Cardinals have scored 30 or more points in five straight games, the longest such streak since accomplishing the feat in eight straight games during the 2005 season.
Saturday marked the 45th time Louisville has scored 30 or more points during the Petrino era and improved to 42-3 in those games.
The 44 points on Saturday are the second highest total of the season for the Cardinals (66 against Murray State) and the most against a Bowl Subdivision opponent since the 72-0 win against FIU on Sept. 21, 2013.
Each the Cardinals' seven scoring drives (including six touchdown drives) on Saturday required less than three minutes. The most time consuming drive of the game for Louisville was the six-play, 62-yard touchdown drive in the second quarter that required 2:49.
The fastest touchdown drive of the day was 6-play, 96-yard drive in the fourth quarter that required only 1:34.
Louisville converted on 7-of-14 third down chances marking the third time this season they have converted at least half of their third down chances (11-of-19 versus Murray State and 9-of-16 against NC State were the others).
The Cardinals' 96-yard touchdown drive midway through the fourth quarter was their longest drive of the season.
Louisville finished with a 176-30 advantage in total yards in the 2nd quarter and finished a 208-124 edge overall in yardage in the first half.
The Cardinals scored 21 points in the 2nd quarter marking the 5th time this season they have scored 21 or more in a quarter.
Entering the week leading the nation in interceptions, Louisville had two more picks on Saturday pushed the season total to 25 overall, three shy of the team record of 28 in 1966.
The Cardinals have tallied at least one interception in 12 straight games and 14 of their last 15 games dating back to last season. Louisville has forced at least one turnover in 15 straight games dating back to 2013.
Louisville, which ran the ball 39 times on Saturday, improved to 23-1 in the last three seasons when attempting at least 35 rushes in a game.
PLAYER NOTES
Prior to Saturday's regular season finale, Louisville honored 23 seniors at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. The Senior Day ceremony included Chris Acosta, Dominique Brown, Luke Brohm Jamon Brown, Gerald Christian, Kai De La Cruz, Grant Donovan, B.J. Dubose, Michael Dyer, Terell Floyd, Michaelee Harris, Andrew Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Lorenzo Mauldin, John Miller, Matt Milton, Deiontrez Mount, Brett Nelson, David Noltemeyer, DeVante Parker, Andrew Polston, Eli Rogers and Jake Smith.
Senior wide receiver DeVante Parker finished with 180 yards receiving on six catches and scored a career-best three touchdowns to earn the 2014 Howard Schnellenberger Award as the most valuable player of the Governor's Cup.
Parker moved into a tie for first place in career touchdowns at Louisville with 33 equaling the total set by Ibn Green from 1996-99.
Parker also earned his ninth career 100-yard receiving game at Louisville, which is tied for the sixth most at Louisville.
The 180 yards receiving are the second most in a game this season for Parker, who had a career-best 214 against Florida State.
Limited to only the final six games of the season due to a preseason injury, Parker has 35 catches for a team-high 735 yards and five touchdowns.
Parker became the first Louisville player to catch three touchdown passes in a game since J.R. Russell had three against Miami (Ohio) on Dec. 18, 2003 in the GMAC Bowl.
Sophomore safety Gerod Holliman earned his 14th interception of the season on Saturday matching the NCAA single season record held by Al Worley of Washington in 1968. Holliman is just the 11th player in NCAA history to record 12 or more interceptions in a season.
After entering the game with 11:22 left in the 2nd quarter for injured Reggie Bonnafon, Louisville redshirt freshman quarterback Kyle Bolin was 8-for-9 with 149 yards passing and one touchdown in the quarter.
Bolin finished the game 21-of-31 for 381 yards passing and three touchdowns. The yardage is the most through the air for a Louisville quarterback since Teddy Bridgewater threw for 447 yards in the 36-9 win over Miami in the 2013 Russell Athletic Bowl.
Bolin's three touchdown passes were the most for a Louisville quarterback since Bridgewater's three in the 2013 Russell Athletic Bowl.
John Wallace converted on his only field goal attempt on Saturday pushing his season total to15 field goals, tied for the fourth most in school history equaling the total by Ron Bell in 1989.
Sophomore running back Brandon Radcliff scored two touchdowns on Saturday marking the fifth time this season he has scored twice in a game (Murray State, Wake Forest, Syracuse, and Boston College).
Sophomore linebacker Keith Kelsey had a team-high 10 tackles on Saturday, including his sixth sack of the season. It marked the second time this season Kelsey has finished with 10 or more stops trailing only the career best 11 tackles against Virginia.
Junior safety James Sample added seven solo tackles on Saturday to go with an interception, his fourth of the season.
