Volleyball Falls to Virginia
November 02, 2014 | Women's Volleyball
Maya McClendon had a team-high 17 kills and eight digs but the University of Louisville volleyball team fell to the Virginia Cavaliers 27-25, 13-25, 25-15, 21-25, 15-12 in ACC volleyball action Sunday afternoon in the KFC Yum! Center.
"I thought our middles were dominant but our passing has been our Achilles heel this entire season. Our blocking, serving and defense are good but we have to control that first contact," said UofL head coach Anne Kordes. "It is all mental so we need to get over it in a hurry. Virginia made very few mistakes. We were in the net three times, we got aced nine times and all those little things kill you when it is a tight match and you give points away. The corrections are all within our abilities we just need to go back and get better."
McClendon led four players with double digit kills for the Cardinals as Maggie DeJong finished with 16, Tess Clark with 13 and Janelle Jenkins with 12. Jenkins added a team-high 17 digs to finish with a double-double alongside Katie George who contributed 46 assists and 14 digs. Louisville hit .272 for the match and Virginia .274, led by Jasmine Burton's 17 kills.
The Cardinals are now 14-9 overall and 6-5 in the ACC. Virginia is 15-9 with an 8-3 mark in the league.

The second set was all Louisville as the Cards jumped out to an early 9-3 lead to force a Virginia timeout. The Cardinals built a 21-8 advantage and would earn set point 24-12 on a Virginia attack error. A Cavalier service error gave Louisville the 25-12 win.
