
Swimming and Diving Falls to Indiana

The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by Indiana University at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Ind.
Swimming in their third meet in seven days, the No. 7 ranked Cardinal men fell 162-138 to the No.8 Hoosiers. The No. 13 ranked Cardinal women went down 175-123 to the No. 11 IU team in their final dual meet of the regular season.
Caryle Blondell was the lone multiple individual event winner for the Cardinals, taking the 50- and 100-free; he also helped the 400-free relay to a win. Joao De Lucca claimed the 200-free and was part of the winning 400-free relay. Kelsi Worrell won the 100-free and gained two relay victories in the 200-medley and 400-free relays. Tanja Kylliainen was victorious in the 200-fly, as well as in the 400-free relay. Krissie Brandenburg and Breann McDowell both had a helping hand in each of the winning relays.

In the women's 200-medley relay, the team of Krissie Brandenburg, Andrea Cottrell, Kelsi Worrell, and Breann McDowell took first with a time of 1:40.75. Kenzie Buss, Lucy Kramer, Mary Mittel, and Andrea Kneppers finished second in 1:44.40. IU was third coming in at 1:46.11.
The Hoosiers won the men's 200-medley relay in a time of 1:28.11, while Louisville finished second and third. The team of Evan Noble, Kameron Chastain, Pedro Coutinho, and Caryle Blondell were runners-up in 1:28.94, while Grigory Tarasevich, Thomas Dahlia, Mihael Vukic, and Trevor Carroll combined for a time of 1:29.53.
Indiana took the top three spots in the women's 1000-free. IU's Lindsay Vrooman won the event in 10:00.50. U of L's top finisher was Abbie Houck with a time of 10:04.55.
In the men's 1000-free, IU's Eric Ress came in first with a time of 9:12.89, while Cardinal Bryan Draganosky was second in 9:13.68. Louisville's Jake Schultz was fourth in a time of 9:30.80.
IU's Lindsey Vrooman went 1:49.24 to take the women's 200-free. U of L's Breann McDowell was fourth in a time of 1:51.18.
Joao De Lucca was victorious in his signature event, the 200-free, coming in with a time of 1:36.70. Teammate Trevor Carroll went 1:38.83 that placed him third.
The Hoosier women went 1-2-3 in the 100-back, with Brooklynn Snodgrass touching the wall in 53.76. The Cardinals' top finisher in fourth was Kenzie Buss whose time was 56.26.
James Wells of Indiana won the men's 100-back going 47.76. U of L's Grigory Tarasevich was the runner-up with a time of 49.22, with teammate Aaron Greene finishing third in 50.11.
Hoosier Bronwyn Pasloski finished first in the women's 100-breast with a time of 1:01.27. Cardinal Andrea Cottrell went 1:02.45 good for second, with Lucy Kramer in third going 1:04.19.
Louisville's Kameron Chastain won the men's 100-breast touching in 54.37. Teammates Thomas Dahlia came in third with a time of 54.94, while Cardinal Addison Bray went 55.44, which was good for fourth.
Tanja Kylliainen outlasted the field in the women's 200-fly, taking first with a time of 1:57.10 for the Cardinals. Devon Bibault touched the wall in 2:00.48 for fourth place.
Indiana went 1-2 in the men's 200-fly, with Steve Schmuhl taking the top honors in 1:47.63. Louisville's Juan Lopez finished with a time of 1:49.02 good for third with teammate Josh Quallen fourth in 1:50.37.
Kaitlyn Flederbach of IU won the women's 50-free in 23.15, just ahead of U of L's Kelsi Worrell who went 23.21. Krissie Brandenburg was fourth in a time of 23.99.
Caryle Blondell and Joao De Lucca went 1-2 in the men's 50-free. Their times were 19.93 and 19.99, respectively. Mihael Vukic touched in 21.20 which was good for fifth.
Kate Hillman of IU took first in women's 1-meter diving with 294.75 points, while Cardinal Andrea Acquista finished second with 273.15. Teammate Emily Stalmack had 247.05 points that put her in third.
In the men's 1-meter diving, U of L's Sean Piner finished with 267.30 points, while teammate Sam Blair had 228.08 which put them eighth and ninth, respectively.
Going 49.46, Kelsi Worrell won the women's 100-free. Breann McDowell touched the wall in 51.29 placing her fourth, while Alexandra Sellers was fifth in 52.58.
Caryle Blondell and Joao De Lucca went 1-2 again, this time in the 100-free. Blondell won with a time of 43.74, while De Lucca came in at 44.06.
The Hoosiers took the top three spots in the women's 200-back. Cynthia Pammett won the event, going 1:58.69. Erica Belcher was fourth for the Cardinals with a time of 2:01.75.
Indiana's Eric Ress won the men's 200-back, touching the wall in 1:44.53. Louisville's top swimmer was Nolan Tesone whose time was 1:47.28, good for fourth place.
U of L's Gisselle Kohoyda came out on top in the 200-breast with a time of 2:10.94. Teammates Andrea Cottrell and Lucy Kramer finished third and fourth with times of 2:19.03 and 2:19.55, respectively.
Hoosier Cody Miller was the first to touch in the men's 200-breast, but the Cardinals took the next four spots. Thomas Dahlia came in second going 1:59.43, while Brennen Berger was third in 2:00.53.
Lindsay Vrooman of IU took first in the women's 500-free, with a time of 4:53.25. The top finisher for U of L was Abby Chin whose time was 5:00.51, which put her in fifth place.
The men's 500-free was won by IU's Eric Ress with a time of 4:29.72. Trevor Carroll was the first to come in for the Cardinals with a time of 4:33.13 good for fourth.
The Hoosiers' Kate Hillman took the 3-meter diving event with 313.20 points. Andrea Acquista was runner up for the Cardinals gaining 308.55 points with teammate Alessandra Murphy in third with 271.35.
Darian Schmidt of Indiana was the top scorer in the men's 3-meter diving with 425.18 points. Cardinals Sean Piner ended up seventh with 302.55 points, while Sam Blair had 294.53 for ninth.
In the women's 400-IM, Hoosier Dorina Szekeres went 4:17.47 for the win. Louisville's top swimmer, Abby Chin, came in third place with a time of 4:27.47.
IU's Steve Schmuhl was victorious in the men's 400-IM, going 3:53.20. Coming in at 3:53.80, Nolan Tesone was runner-up, with teammate Ryan Massey in third with a time of 4:02.67.
The Louisville team of Kelsi Worrell, Krissie Brandenburg, Tanja Kylliainen, and Breann McDowell took first place in the women's 400-free relay with a time of 3:21.78. Indiana was second, touching in a time of 3:22.03.
The Cardinal men outswam the Hoosiers to take the 400-free relay in 2:56.30. The winning squad consisted of Thomas Dahlia, Trevor Carroll, Caryle Blondell, and Joao De Lucca. IU came in with a time of 2:59.06.
The Cardinals are idle until they host the American Athletic Conference Championship at the Ralph Wright Natatorium Feb. 19-22.
