LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville track and field teams were led by the sprints squad on the final day of Vanderbilt's Black and Gold Invitational at the Vanderbilt Track Complex in Nashville, Tenn.
The group, which posted 10 top-10 finishes on the last day of competition, was headlined by sophomore Calvin Arsenault. The Kitchener, Ontario, native tied the school's seven-year-old school record in the 400m hurdles with a winning time of 52.03, first achieved by Brad Keys. Arsenault took second in the 110m hurdles, finishing in a legal time of 14.19. That mark ranks third on the school's charts. He also ran a leg on the 4x400m relay group, which clocked a fifth-place time of 3:14.39. The mark ranks fourth best in school history.
On the women's side, Margret Harris took first in the 400m event. Improving by more than a second from her season-opening mark, that time is good enough for second best in the record books. Chelsea Brown placed fifth in the event.
In addition to those standout performances, Louisville received top-10 finishes by the men's and women's 4x100m relay squads, Marcellus Hobbs and Marcus Motill in the men's 400m, Nitaya Walker in the women's 100m, and Antoine Keys in the 200m.
The team's middle-distance and distance runners recorded multiple top-10 finishes as well. Mattias Wolter raced to a first-place finish in the 2,000m steeplechase in a meet-record time of 5:38.60.
Kelsey Cramsey scored her second top-five finish of the season in the 800m, as she took runner-up in the event on Saturday. She shaved off five seconds from last week's time, finishing in 2:10.35. Andrew Stewart took eighth on the men's side.
In the field events, Amashi Kendall took third in the discus and led a group that two other top-10 finishes. Isaac Bowling was the top placewinner on the men's side, as he had a fourth-place showing.
In the jumps group, Jacob Sebastian and Chelsea Bingham each registered top-five showings in the pole vault, taking third and fourth, respectively. In the women's long jump, Brittany Owens posted a wind-aided 5.76m/18-10.75, and all four women competing in the event earned top-10 finishes.
Louisville returns to action on Friday, March 29, for the two-day Stanford Invitational.
