
Volleyball Sweeps UCF to go 14-0 in AAC

Seniors Emily Juhl and Brooke Mattingly had ten kills apiece to lead the University of Louisville to a 25-19, 25-11, 25-14 sweep of UCF to stay perfect in the AAC volleyball standings at 14-0 Friday night in Orlando.
"This was our best all around performance of the season. We controlled both the front and back row and everyone performed incredibly well tonight," said U of L head coach Anne Kordes. "At this point in the season, you want to be executing your game plan and we did that tonight. I love to see the effort and intensity.
U of L, 19-7 overall, hit .319 and outblocked the Knights 8-3 and snapped a 13-home winning streak. Caitlin Welch had 14 digs and setter Katie George had a match-high 14 digs and added four kills. The Knights fall to 18-8 and 9-4 and wer ld by DeLaine Sarden's eight kills.
The Cards had trouble early building any kind of lead in the first set that featured eight ties. Finally, tied at ten, the Cards had a 6-1 run to gain some breathing room, powered by two kills each by Mattingly and Juhl. After breaking it open, the Cards pulled away to the 25-19 win. Louisville hit .243 with three blocks.
In the second set after tying at nine, U of L went on a 12-1 run, with seven straight points served by Caitlin Welch to go up 20-10. The Cards did not let up and finished off the Knights 25-11 to take a two set lead into the break.
U of L had a 6-1 run midway through the third set to go up 13-6 and then cruised to a 25-13 led by Emily Juhl's four kills in the set. Mattingly had two blocks and four kills to help the cause.
The Cards head over to Tampa to face USF on Sunday in the final regular season road match.
