
Men's Swimming in Ninth after Day 1 NCAA Finals

The University of Louisville men's swimming team is sitting in ninth place after the first day of competition at the 2012 Men's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday night at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington.
U of L used strong performances in the relays to score in the highly competitive field. Cal-Berkeley leads the field after the first day, with Stanford, Texas, Arizona, Auburn, Michigan, Southern California and Florida ahead of the Cards.
After setting a school record in the prelims to gain the finals of the 200-free relay, the U of L men posted a 1:18.22 for eighth place. Brendon Andrews was first in the water with a 19.99 split. Next was Matt Schlytter, who put up a 19.44. Samuel Hoekstra was the third swimmer and boarded a split of 19.70. Joao De Lucca anchored with a swim of 19.09.
In the 400-medley relay, the Cardinals finished 7th with a time of 3:08.31. Brendon Andrews led off with a backstroke leg of 47.67 before Carlos Almeida's breaststroke leg clocked in at 51.03. Fly specialist Tim Collins was next in the water and boarded a 47.67. Freestyle anchor Joao De Lucca put up a 41.92 split.
