The University of Louisville women's tennis team took the doubles point and then swept all six singles for a 7-0 win over visiting Furman Saturday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

"This was a great win today. This is the type of team that we have lost to the past couple of years. For us to get a break through win will help our confidence as a team as a whole," said U of L head coach Mark Beckham, whose team is now 3-3. "Furman has been ranked but that is irrelevant because just the fact that we beat a high quality team and beat them convincingly can do nothing but help everyone's individual confidence as well."

Louisville started strong by sweeping the doubles point. Rebecca Shine and Julia Fellerhoff struck first with a 8-4 win at No. 2 over Margaret Boyette and Katherine Oudin. Amelia Harris and Manuela Velasquez clinched the doubles point at No. 1 with an 8-6 win over Lauren Kline and Alex Moreno. Sarah Miller and Mandy Brown outlasted Michele Stanford and Amanda Murray 9-7 at No. 3.

In singles, Manuela Velasquez rolled 6-1, 6-1 over Margaret Boyette to score the first singles point. Next to finish was Julia Fellerhoff, who won 6-2, 6-3 over Laura Kline at No. 1. Sarah Miller clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5. Rebecca Shine won at No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Katherine Oudin. Amelia Harris gained momentum after winning a hardfought first set 7-6 and then rolled 6-3 at No. 6. Mandy Brown made it a sweep by outlasting Michele Stanford 6-1, 7-6.

"I am extremely proud of the team's effort and performance today," said Beckham.
