
Volleyball Chases Down Roadrunners 3-1

Freshman Emily Juhl had 16 kills and three blocks to lead the University of Louisville to a 3-1 win over California State-Bakersfield in the first match of the Arizona Wildcat Classic.
U of L (3-1) fell in the first set before chasing down the Roadrunners 23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-16 win. CSUB remains winless at 0-5.
"The first outing after a big rivalry five-set match can be up and down, but we survived and now can look ahead to the Arizona match later this evening," said U of L head coach Leonid Yelin.
U of L outblocked the Roadrunners 11-7 and had 53 kills to CSUB's 39. Both teams struggled at the service line with U of L committing 11 service errors and CSUB posting 14. The Cardinals were aced seven times but outdug the Roadrunners 48-34.
In the first set, CSUB used an 8-1 run to pull ahead 19-18 and then capitalized on three straight Cardinal hitting errors to win 25-23. The Cardinals outhit the Roadrunners .250 to .156 but were aced three times and were not helped by five service errors and three blocking errors. Emily Juhl led the Cardinals with four kills.
In the second set, U of L used a 7-1 run to take a 19-14 lead and held off a Roadrunner rally late in the set to win 25-20. Kasey Heckelman came off the bench to put down seven kills to lead the Cardinals. CSUB's hitting fell to .074. CSUB used three straight blocks to score their last three points.
U of L took the third set 25-23, when Lola Arslanbekova's offense came alive with five kills in the set. The Cardinals hit just .161 in the set to CSUB's .257. Louisville used a 9-2 run to put the Roadrunners away. The momentum carried over to the final set as the Cardinals ran out to a 13-7 lead in the fourth powered by .364 hitting.
