The University of Louisville volleyball team made their 13th straight NCAA appearance and 21st overall today against the Blue Raiders.
Coach Leonid Yelin made his 14th NCAA Appearance in 15 years as head coach at the University of Louisville.
Today marks the third time in five years Middle Tennessee and Louisville have squared off in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Middle Tennessee had won the previous two NCAA matchups in five sets.
With today's three-set sweep, Louisville improves to 13-20 (.394) all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
This afternoon marked the first sweep for Louisville in NCAA Tournament action since its sweep over Maryland in the second round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament. Louisville improved to 9-0 this season in sweeps.
Today marked Louisville's sixth sweep in an NCAA Tournament.
Louisville won set one of a NCAA Tournament match for the first time in four years. The last time Louisville won the first set of an NCAA Tournament game was in 2006 against Middle Tennessee.
Louisville took a two set lead for the first time since they faced Maryland in the second round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament.
Freshman Caitlin Welch recorded her 441st dig of the season during the third set, good for the most digs by a freshman in school history. The milestone dig breaks Lindsey Mango's old record of 440 digs. Currently, Welch has 442 digs, good for fifth all-time for digs in a season.
Senior Lindsey Mango recorded her first ace in five weeks against Middle Tennessee. She also finished with eight digs against the Blue Raiders.
Sophomore Lola Arslanbekova tied her career high with two solo blocks against Middle Tennessee. Previously, Arslanbekova recorded two solo blocks against Illinois on Sept. 18, 2009. She also smashed down 17 kills and averages 18.5 kills per match in NCAA Tournament games.
Junior Maci Wachtel notched her first service ace since facing DePaul on Oct. 10 during the second set.
The Cardinals outblocked the Blue Raiders 11-3.
Louisville will make its ninth second round appearance in school history on Saturday against Purdue. Louisville is 4-4 all-time in second round matches. Louisville won its previous second round match against Maryland in 2005, a three-set sweep.
