
Volleyball Rolls 3-0 Over UConn

Tanya Lukyanenko had 12 kills and a block to led the Cardinals rolled to a 25-21, 25-11, 25-12 win over Connecticut in BIG EAST volleyball action Friday night in Storrs.
U of L hit .378 and put up 14 blocks, led by Gwen Ruckers six. Anastasia Artemeva added seven kills and six blocks. UConn hit just .021 as a team and had just one block.
"Anytime you get a road win in this league, it is great," said U of L head coach Leonid Yelin. "Our blocking and defense made the difference tonight."
In the first set, U of L never trailed, but never took a decisive lead over a tenacious UConn team. However, the Cardinals finally pulled to a 22-19 lead and forced a Huskie timeout. U of L did not waver and took the set 25-21. The Cardinals were aided by their five blocks and .222 hitting. UConn recorded no blocks and hit .093. Juhl and Tanya Lukyanenko each had four kills apiece.
UConn fell behind 13-3 early in the second set. The Cardinals continued to build their lead and won 25-11, the fewest points allowed this season and the fewest since Nov. 11, 2008 when U of L beat Rutgers 25-8 in the first set. U of L added five blocks and hit a toasty .462 in the win. Gwen Rucker led with four kills.
U of L roared out to a 15-6 lead in the third set before finishing 25-12 for the set and match.
