
Volleyball Downs Ball State to Win Active Ankle Challenge

Freshman Lola Arslanbekova had 19 kills and an ace and was named Tournament MVP to lead the University of Louisville to a 3-1 win over host Ball State to win the Ball State Active Ankle Challenge Saturday night in Muncie, Ind.
U of L improved its record to 4-2 with the 25-16, 25-13, 23-25, 25-16 win. Ball State finished second and now posts a 2-4 mark. Lindsey Mango and Justine Landi joined Arslanbekova on the all-tournament squad. U of L hit .327 for the match with eight service aces and 12 blocks. Lecia Brown had six and nine kills. Lindsey Mango had 12 digs and an ace.
"We served aggressively and our serve receive was excellent tonight," said U of L head coach Leonid Yelin. "We outblocked them 12-3 too."
U of L used a 6-0 run to go up 21-14 on Ball State in the first set. Louisville hit .444 and had three blocks led by Lecia Brown's perfect five for five hitting and two blocks for the 25-16 win. U of L had a 7-1 run in the second set to build a 15-7 lead and then broke it open by scoring seven of the last eight points of the set for the 25-13 win. U of L hit a torrid .565 and Lola Arslanbekova had five kills to pace The Ville to take a 2-0 set lead into the lockerroom at the break. Ball State was down four at 15-11 and came back to tie at 15 and takes its first lead at 19-18 and then ran off four more points to go up 23-19. Louisville rallied to get within two at 24-23 on a kill but a Louisville service error game BSU the set. U of L hit .125 to BSU's .395. Charde Phillips had the hot hand for Ball State with seven kills in the set.
Ball State went down swinging in the fourth set as Louisville had to call time out at 14-11 to cool a four point run by BSU. However, U of L had a 7-0 run to put the set and match out of reach enroute to a 25-16 win.
