
Volleyball Falls to No. 16 Wichita State

Senior Lecia Brown had 12 kills and four blocks and made the All-Tournament team but the University of Louisville fell 3-1 to Wichita State in the final match of the Sheraton Riverside/Puccini's Cardinal Classic in college volleyball action Sunday afternoon at Cardinal Arena.
U of L falls to 1-2 with the 25-20, 25-16, 20-25, 25-14 loss. Wichita State boosts its record to 2-1 and put Emily Stockman and Melissa Granville on the All-Tournament Team. The Cardinals hit .096, committed 11 service errors and were unable to take advantage of 17 service errors by WSU. Gwen Rucker added four kills and three blocks for U of L. Stockman paced the Shockers with a match-high 18 kills and seven digs.
Wichita State used a 9-2 run midway through the first set and then staved off a U of L run that brought the Cardinals to within one at 20-19. However, Wichita State was able to outscore U of L 5-1 down the stretch for the win. U of L hit .139 but Brown tallied six kills in the set.
In the second set, WSU built what was to be an insurmountable lead when they powered out to a 10-4 lead. U of L hit a frigid -.043 and managed just two blocks before falling 25-16.
U of L ran out to a 13-7 lead early then held off a run by the Shockers to win 25-20. Cardinal hitting warmed up to .375 hitting and Lecia Brown kept a hot hand with three kills and three blocks.
WSU used a 9-1 run early in the final set to go up 16-7 and then never looked back.
The Cardinals are idle until next weekend, when they travel to Muncie for the Ball State Active Ankle Tournament where they will face SIU-Edwardsville at 5 p.m. in the first round.
