
Volleyball Beats Georgetown 3-1

Lecia Brown had 12 kills and seven blocks to lead the University of Louisville to a 3-1 win over Georgetown in BIG EAST volleyball action Sunday in Georgetown.
U of L improves to 15-10 and 8-4 in the league with the 25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20 win. Georgetown drops to 13-15 and 3-9 in the BIG EAST. U of L hit .217 and outblocked the Hoyas 13-10. Lola Arslanbekova had 15 kills and an ace with Justine Landi adding 13 kills and eight digs. Lindsey Mango had 15 digs. Gwen Rucker had four blocks.
In the first set, the Hoyas took their first lead at 17-16 and then built a three point lead when they went up 20-17 on two kills by Vanessa Dorismond. U of L tied at 22 and then got to set point on a kill by Lola Arslanbekova. Justine Landi banged one home for the 25-23 win. U of L hit .323 and had three blocks. Georgetown hit .250 and also had three blocks.
In the second set, U of L pulled out to a 8-5 lead and then kept the Hoyas at arm length. After two straight Lecia Brown kills to put the Cardinals at 18-15, GU called a timeout. U of L continued to add to the spread, going up 22-18 and force another Hoya timeout. Georgetown regrouped and ran off three points to come within two at 24-22 but a kill by Anastasia Artemeva gave the Cards a two set lead going into the break. U of L hit .200 led by Lecia Brown's five kills and Gwen Rucker connected for two blocks to lead the Cards. The Hoyas committed four service errors and hit .182.
In the third set, GU had the lead , going ahead by as many as five at 20-15 but the Cardinals responded with four straight points to come within one. After a GU time out, the Hoyas scored two straight but a GU service error and a kill by both Arslanbekova and Landi brought the Cards back to within one at 23-22 and force another GU timeout. GU's Kortney Robinson had a kill to get to game point and a kill by Sarah Manley gave GU the set 25-23. Louisville was outhit .222 to .350 in that set. The Cardinal offense was led by Arslanbekova who had five kills.
In the fourth set, U of L blew out to a 15-11 lead and forced a Hoya timeout. The Cardinals held on to their lead and GU had to call another timeout at 21-18. GU came within one at 21-20 on a kill by Vanessa Dorismond but the Cardinals ran off four straight for the win.
U of L returns home next Friday when St. john's visits Nov. 13 at the Kentucky International Convention Center. UConn follows on Sunday, also at the KICC.
