
Swimming Sweeps Pittsburgh

Winning all but five events, the University of Louisville men's and women's swimming teams swept BIG EAST rival Pitt, Saturday night in Pittsburgh.
"I am very pleased with the swims today especially since we drove up on the same day and swam fast," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero. "It was a challenging environment and we responded well."
Diver Hannah Gadd sweeping both 1- and 3-meter boards, Whitney Campbell won both sprint events and Therese Bergstrom's 2:15.56 in the 200-breast were the women's highlights cited by Albiero. The men were led by Carlos Almeida, who won the 400-IM and 500-free and Brendon Andrews, who took the 50- and 100-free.
The Cardinals fared well in the relays with a pair of wins in the 400-medley relay. Eszter Povaszy, Therese Bergstrom, Nicole Landisch and Liz Halet posted a 3:48.89. The foursome of Carlos Van Isschot, Carlos Almeida, Pedro Oliveira and Matt Schlytter boarded 3:22.90. The women also won the 400-free relay when Whitney Campbell, Nicole Landisch, Anna Dishuck and Sarah Andrews boarded a 3:28.56.
U of L swept the 1000 when Amanda Henleben touched first in 10:08.70 and Michael Pryor took top honors for the men 9:32.40. The Cardinals took the top two spots in the 50-free when Whitney Campbell touched in 23.42 with Kara Savegnago right in her wake in 23.92. Brendon Andrews was first, going 20.85.
The Cardinal women went one-two-three in the 400-IM, led by Leslie VanWinkle (4.23.51), Fanny Lilliestrom (4:28.43), and Amanda Heneleben 4:29.28. Carlos Almeida (3:59.14) and Michael Pryor (4:03.19) took the top two spots for the men.
In the 1-meter board, Hannah Gadd took top honors with a score of 304.19 with Kayla Purkiser finishing second with 289.81.
U of L swept the 200-fly event with Raine Thompson winning in 2:05.15 for the women and Rafal Kuchta winning for the men 1:51.16. In the 100-free, Whitney won in 51.25 for the women. Brendon Andrews and Carlos Van Isschot turned in times of 45.23 and 46.41 to make it a one-two sweep.
In the 200-back, Eszter Povaszy touched in 2:01.65 for the win and Pedro Oliveira went 1:49.84 to make it a Cardinal sweep. In the 500-free, Sarah Andrews (4:57.54) and Amanda Henleben (4:58.02) combined efforts for a one-two sweep. The men did them one better, sweeping the top three spots with Carlos Almeida (4:33.66), Shane Lichtenberg (4:33.87) and Michael Pryor (4:40.57).
Hannah Gadd (297.75) and Kayla Purkiser (284.18) took the top two spots in the 3-meter diving.
In the 200-breast, Therese Bergstrom turned in a blazing time of 2:15.56 for first and teammate Sergiu Daghid won for the men 2:07.39.
In the final event, Whitney Campbell, Nicole Landisch, Anna Dishuck and Sarah Andrews combined in 3:28.56.
The Cardinals travel to Morgantown for a meet with WVU on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
