Lecia Brown had 15 kills and eight blocks including a career high five solos in the University of Louisville's 3-2 loss to University of Dayton in the Flyer Classic in Dayton Saturday night.
U of L falls to 4-6 with the 21-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-17, 16-18 loss. Dayton improves to 8-4. Brown, who earned All-Flyer Classic honors was one of three Cardinals in double digit kills. It marks the fifth time this season that U of L has played a five-set match and is 1-4 in them. Jana Matiasovska had 19 with two aces and Justine Landi added 15 with two blocks. Freshman Renee Tomko had 47 assists and libero Lindsey Mango had 20 digs.
"Unfortunately, it took us two games to be able to play our game," said Leonid Yelin. "We were fighting down to the last point and Renee Tomko was setting well and kept us into our system. Our blocking came back and it was almost enough to push us through."
In the first set, UD had a 6-0 run to go up 23-16 but the Cardinals scrapped back with three straight to come within four at 24-20. Jana Matiasovska's cross court kill staved off set point before a kill by Nicole Bateman gave the set to the Flyers 25-21. U of L hit just .139 led by Matiasovska's five kills.
In the second set, U of L led all the way to 23-22 before UD tied at 23 and then got to game point on a miss by Landi and won on a Bateman kill. U of L hit .211 that set to UD's .243 and the Flyers took a 2-0 set lead into the break with the 25-23 win.

UD hit just .167 in that set to U of L's .233.
Louisville popped out to a 10-4 lead in the fourth set but let UD kept chipping away and when they got to within three at 15-12, Yelin called timeout. UD committed three straight errors to fall behind 18-12 and had to burn its last timeout. Long rallies marked play down the stretch as Justine Landi and Jana Matiasovska combined for four kills to give U of L the 25-17 win. Cardinal hitting heated up to .378 with Lecia Brown paving the way with five kills in that set.
In the deciding set, U of L powered out to a 8-4 lead before UD was able to tie the score at 12. The two teams traded points with Justine Landi scoring the 16th point for the Cardinals before she was blocked to push UD for match point and then a kill by Nicole Bateman gave the deuce set to the Flyers.
