
Volleyball Turns Orange Blue with a 3-0 sweep

Jana Matisovska had 11 kills, two aces and two blocks to lead the University of Louisville to a 30-26, 30-27, 30-16 sweep of Syracuse in BIG EAST volleyball action Saturday afternoon in Cardinal Arena.
U of L boosts its record to 8-4 and stays unbeaten in the league at 3-0. Syracuse drops to 10-7 and 1-1.
Ranked No. 3 in the nation in blocking, U of L was a heavy presence at the net, outblocking the Orange 17-8 led by Lecia Brown's 10. Brown leads the nation in blocking with an average of 2.12 per game. Senior Svetlana Dukule added 15 kills and five blocks for the Cardinals. Libero Lindsey Mango had a match-high 16 digs and Samantha Dabbs had 39 assists and six blocks.
In the game one, U of L fell behind 8-4 but came back to tie the score at ten and then held off Syracuse. Tied at 23, U of L put together a 7-3 run to win. Neither team was hitting well, with U of L holding a sliver of a lead at .098 to SU's .026. U of L did outblock the Orange 7-1 led by Brown's five.
In the second game, Dukule added six kills helped the Cards to a narrow 30-27 win. Tied at 23, U of L scored five straight to go up 28-23. SU scored twice and U of L got to game point on a kill by Dukule. SU staved off game point with two straight kills before Dukule put away the game winner.
In game three, U of L shot out to a 13-7 lead in the early going. The Cards used a 9-0 run to help put the game out of reach as the Cards cruised easily to the 30-16 win.
U of L continues BIG EAST action Sunday at 2 p.m. against rival Marquette.
Syracuse was led by Kacie MacTavish's 11 kills and seven digs.
