
Volleyball Sweeps USF in BIG EAST Opener

Lecia Brown had 10 kills and 12 blocks to lead the University of Louisville to a sweep of South Florida in BIG EAST volleyball action Friday night at the Corral in Tampa.
U of L moves to 6-4 for the year and 1-0 in the BIG EAST opener with the 30-18, 30-19, 30-20 win. USF is now 8-2 and 0-1 in the league.
U of L outhit the Bulls .248 to .015 and outblocked them 18.5 to 7.5. Jana Matiasovska and Justine Landi each added 10 kills and Lindsey Mango led with a match-high 19 digs. Samantha Dabbs added 36 assists.
In the first game, U of L blew out to a 10-5 lead and then stretched it to seven at 15-8. Down 22-10, USF called its second and last timeout to regroup but negative percentage hitting hindered the comeback. U of L outblocked the Bulls 7-1.5, led by Rui Liu's four. Florida natives Justine Landi and Lecia Brown each had four kills to lead the Cards.
The Cardinals used a 9-4 run to win the second game 30-19. U of L hitting heated up to .342 with blocking being a factor as the Cardinals recorded 6.5 to USF's 2.5. Jana Matiasovska led the Cards with five kills and Brown added another five blocks along with her three kills.
South Florida showed signs of life in the third game. The Bulls stayed close in the early going and then tied at 11. But the Cardinals kept swinging away and a 6-2 run down the stretch gave the game and match to Louisville.
