The University of Louisville volleyball team fell 30-27, 30-23, 30-16 to Kansas State in the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Classic late Saturday in Honolulu.
The Cardinals were outhit .218 to .480 and outblocked for the first time this season at 8-7. Only one U of L player hit in double figures kills with Jana Matiasovska notching ten. KSU was led by Nataly Korobkova's 15 and Rita Liliom's 16. U of L falls to a record of 3-2 with Kansas state improving to 4-1.
Louisville got off to a promising start as Samantha Dabbs served for the first seven unanswered points but the margin did not hold up. Kansas State battled back and tied at 13 and 17 and then went on a 7-2 run to go up three. U of L used its last timeout but KSU closed the game on a kill by Rita Liliom. U of L hit .156 for the game to KSU's .343 with the Cards holding a slight 3-2 edge in blocking.
With the second game tied at 11, KSU slowly pulled away from the struggling Cardinals, going up 22-16. The Cardinals kept scoring but .576 KSU hitting was too much firepower as they fell 30-23.
U of L never led in the in the third and final game and trailed 24-12 with no timeouts left. A hitting percentage of .000 did little to help matters as the Wildcats continued to roll as U of L fell 30-16.
