
Volleyball Stays Unbeaten in BIG EAST with Sweep of WVU

Svetlana Dukule had 14 kills and a block to lead the University of Louisville to a sweep of WVU and extend the Cardinal winning streak to 15 straight and stay unbeaten in the BIG EAST.
U of L moves to 18-4 with a perfect 11-0 league mark. West Virginia evens its record at 13, dropping to 4-8 in the BIG EAST. The Cardinals hit .371 and outblocked the Mountaineers 11-4. U of L notched seven service aces led by Rui Liu's three.
"We are playing with confidence now," said U of L head coach Leonid Yelin. "Every team comes to Cardinal Arena fired up and we have learned to play through their big pushes and stay steady."
In the first game, U of L built a ten-point margin, going up 16-6 and forcing the Mountaineers to play catch-up. WVU could get no closer than six at 25-19 and then were outscored 5-1 down the stretch. U of L hit .441 led by Tatyana Kolesnikova's four kills. The Mountaineers came out tough in the second game and had a 5-0 run to come within one at 17-16. The teams traded points and then WVU tied at both 25 and 26 and took the lead at 27-26. The Cardinals finally tied on a WVU service error and then an ace by Tatyana Kolesnikova took the Cardinals to game point. A kill by Lecia Brown gave the Cardinals a 2-0 game lead going into the break. In the third game, after WVU tied at 14, the Cardinals went on a 10-1 run and then used .378 hitting to keep the Mountaineers at bay for the 30-21 win.
Lindsey Mango had 13 digs and Lecia Brown, the nation's leading blocker, had seven blocks to lead the Cardinals. WVU was led by Abby Tevis' 15 kills.
The Cardinals return for their final regular season home match Sunday at 2 p.m. in Cardinal Arena.
