
Volleyball Extends Streak to 13 with Sweep of Rutgers

Svetlana Dukule had 13 kills and two blocks to help the University of Louisville extend its winning streak to 13 and stay unbeaten in the conference with a 3-0 sweep of Rutgers in volleyball action in New Brunswick, N.J. Sunday afternoon.
U of L moves to 16-4 and stays the only unbeaten BIG EAST team at 10-0 with the 30-17, 30-16, 30-17 win. Rutgers falls to 3-17 and 1-9 in the league. The Cardinals, the leading blocking team in the nation, had 13 to RU's one. Tatyana Kolesnikova had six blocks to pace the Cards with Lecia Brown tallying five.
U of L used an 11-2 run in the first game to take an 18-10 lead and force the first Rutgers timeout. The Scarlet Knights were outscored 12-7 down the stretch before falling 30-17. The Rutgers offense was struggling to get on line with nine of their 17 points coming on Louisville errors. The Cardinals hit .308 and were led by Tatyana Kolesnikova's four kills.
In the second game, it was a 10-2 run that scooted U of L to an 11-point lead at 25-11. Cardinal hitting heated up to .359 and U of L had six blocks, led by Lecia Brown's three. Svetlana Dukule had six kills to pace the Cards.
In the final game, Kristie Wetterer served for eight straight points to take the Cardinals to 20-10 lead. Blocking continued to take its toll on the Scarlet Knights as U of L notched another four in the win.
U of L travels to Morehead State Oct. 31 in a break from conference play before returning home for the final homestand of the year when West Virginia visits Nov. 2 followed by always-tough Pittsburgh Nov. 4.
