
Volleyball Sweeps Tennessee Tech

Ana Yartseva Stewart had six kills and nine blocks to lead the No. 12-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team to a 30-14, 30-15, 30-26 sweep of Tennessee Tech in the second match of the Courtyard by Marriott Airport East Classic in Cardinal Arena Saturday afternoon.
U of L improves to 4-1 and Tech falls to 1-4. The Cardinals hit .352 and outblocked the Eagles 11-0. Rui Liu hit .625 with five kills on eight attacks with Stephanie Marsh and Jana Matiasovska each adding nine kills.
"When our blocking gets going it keeps the opponents from running their offense," said Leonid Yelin, U of L had coach. "We hustled on defense and mixed it up on offense."
U of L popped out to a 9-4 lead early in the fourth game and then added an 11-3 run to put the game out of reach. The Cardinals outblocked Tech 7-0 and outhit the Eagles .423 to -.114. Yartseva Stewart had five blocks to lead the Cards.
Originally up 10-4 in the second game, U of L had to use one of its timeouts to regroup when Tech cut to lead to three at 10-7. The Cardinals steadily built the lead to 12 at 25-13 and then scored five of the last six points of the game for the win. Hitting .484 helped the Cardinal effort and Tatyana Kolesnikova led with six kills.
In the third game, Tennessee Tech had the lead at 12-11 but suffered a 9-2 drought. A kill by Lecia Brown took the Cardinals to match point but Tech held them at bay for three points before falling 30-26.
U of L returns to action Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. against No. 18-ranked Arizona, which swept by Dayton in an upset in the first match of the day.
